Research area
The focus of Isabelle's research area is investigating biohybrid bacterial systems in a highly precise and reproducible manner exploiting a novel directed assembly technique based on capillary forces. By harnessing the power of motile bacteria for active transport and attaching them to colloids, e.g. microcapsules in prescribed architectures, the goal of the project is to create a versatile and robust fabrication strategy for this biohybrid microrobots.
Isabelle studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Bern where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in 2019. After doing internships in Switzerland and abroad, she continued her Master studies in Biotechnology at the Department for Biosystems, Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH in Basel. In 2022 she finished her Master's degree investigating oscillatory dynamics in cerebral brain organoids in Prof. A. Hierlemanns group. Since May 2023 Isabelle is working towards her PhD investigating biohybrid bacterial systems as a member of the ETH ALIVE initiative under the supervision of Prof. L. Isa and Prof. S. Schuerle-Finke.
